It’s a girl

We are very pleased to announce that Kerry has given birth to a little baby girl, Bethya Claire Joyce Green, who was born on the 5th of January 2005 at 06:53 weighing 8 lb 8 oz.

Proud familyJust two days late, Bethya (pronounced Beth-yah) had a fairly traumatic birth but everything ended up just fine and she is doing fantastically well.

As we write this, she is about a week old, feeding well… already she seems to be growing and we could not be happier.

For those that are interested, the birth involved a combination of an epidural, followed by ventouse and then an episiotomy (if you don’t know what they are, you probably don’t want to know either… best left unexplained) and labour officially lasted seven hours fifty three minutes although Kerry was 4cm dilated when it was declared officially started!

Bethya leaves hospitalShe is mostly very cute although she does have her moments of screaming and wailing and overall, she’s not doing too bad at all. She’s even managing to give her mum and dad some reasonable amounts of sleep.

For those interested in the choice of name. Bethya is a Hebrew name that literally means ‘daughter of the Lord’.

We really liked ‘Beth’ as a short name and preferred Bethya to the other options available. Claire comes from one of Kerry’s sisters while Joyce is in honour of both Kerry’s grandmother on her dad’s side and Dave’s aunt on his dad’s side.

We are both very pleased and really excited about becoming parents, and your thoughts and prayers for all three of us are very much appreciated. Thank you also to all those who have sent cards and presents – we really appreciate the thoughts and the sentiments and will try to write thankyou cards in due course!
